Hello, This year Radio Andorra will be on the air for the New Year Eve. So, the broadcast "42 ans de Dance Music sur Radio Andorre", will be on the air on December 31st from 2000-2400 UT on 7540 kHz (probably from Gavar Armenia or Tashkent Uzbekistan site). Regards, Christian Ghibaudo-Nice-FRA, BrDXC-UK iogroups Dec 26) ARMENIA {non ANDORRA } 'Radio Andorra' will be on the air on 31 December for the four-hour New Year's Eve programme "42 ans de Dance Music sur Radio Andorre" from 2000-2400 UT on 7540 kHz. The "Aqui Radio Andorra" Facebook page now confirms that 7540 kHz will be via Gavar Armenia site with 100 kW for the first two hours, and 300kW 'from 11pm' (I think that is French time - so probably from 2200 UTC). From 15-18 LT CET [14.00-17.00 UTC] on New Year's Eve, DR will broadcast a mix of what has been sent through the station's 96-years lifespan, in particular music programs but also historical radio clips about and from the station itself. Exactly at 18 LT [17.00 UTC], Queen Margrethe's New Year's speech will be broadcast live, after which the well-known pause signal "Jeg dromte mig en drom i nat" [I dreamed a dream last night] fades out and will mark the final switch off of the signal. The first hour of broadcasting from 1400z (start of the official special program) was mainly about the history of Kalundborg, including (Carmen Curlers / Arne Bybjerg Pedersens Radio & TV) At the moment, the second hour is about Re: Today Kalundborg on 243 kHz will be closed. They turned on the transmitter at some point between 1230 and 1325 UTC. P4 went out until they cut it at 1359 UTC, then almost 40 seconds of si- lence until the special started, probably cutting into the first sentences of an already running playout (with such a handling this does not appear to come live from a studio). See this story: I don't think that it sheds a favourable light on Danmarks Radio. But on the other hand: Could not back in 2005 a 14 years old from Denmark have written a letter to Charlottenburg? Probably saving some preliminary work, also by me, from being in vain? I think it sheds a favourable light on Danmarks Radio that they actually put together such a nice program from what I am able to understand with my limited knowledge of Danish. The Queen's New Year's speeches through the ages With few exceptions, The Queen's New Year's speeches have always been held in The Queen's reception room in Christian IX's Palace at Amalienborg. It is in this room that The Queen receives, among others, the prime minister and the foreign minister when they are in audience with The Queen, and court employees when they have an audience with The Queen. On New Year's Eve 1979, 1980, 2014, 2015 and 2018, the speech was held in the Garden Hall at Fredensborg Palace. 2. Always broadcast live It is a special Danish tradition that the regent's New Year's speech is broadcast live. In 1941, Christian the 10th's New Year's speech was broadcast for the first time, and in 1958, Danmarks Radio broadcast the New Year's speech given by Frederik the 9th for the first time. Today, the Queen's New Year's speech is broadcast live on TV and radio from the Queen's reception room in Christian IX's Palace at Amalienborg at 18:00. In 2010, Danmarks Radio broadcast the New Year's speech to the world for the first time through www.dr.dk. This made it possible for the first time to follow the speech live abroad. 3. The production of the New Year's speech Every year on New Year's Eve, a TV crew arrives at Christian IX's Palace to transform the Queen's reception room into a TV studio. Lights, sound and preparations are made for The Queen to speak live. The New Year's speech has always been filmed by a single camera that slowly zooms in during The Queen's speech. There is an emergency camera connected, which is only used if the main camera suddenly malfunctions. This has never happened before. In 2016, 1.3 million viewers lost their TV signal and were unable to watch the Queen's New Year's speech. Due to limited space, the camera is placed in the doorway to the Queen's reception room. During the live broadcast, only the cameraman and a representative from the TV crew are present. When the clock strikes 18:00, the representative signals to The Queen that the broadcast is on, and The Queen then begins to give her speech. 4. The myth of the lake people It is a persistent myth that The Queen always uses the phrase "sending greetings to the people of the lake" in her speech, as this has never been the case. However, it is a tradition that The Queen sends New Year's greetings to everyone in the Danish Realm and to Danes around the world. In many Danish homes, it is a tradition to guess the topics, specific words or events that The Queen will mention in this year's New Year's speech. 5. What happens after the New Year's speech? A short while after The Queen has delivered her New Year's speech, Her Majesty is photographed. Afterwards, The Queen wishes the TV crew a "Happy New Year" and then leaves for her own private New Year's Eve celebration. Before the TV crew packs up, everyone involved in the New Year's speech production is offered a glass of champagne and a piece of wreath cake, with representatives from the Royal Court in attendance. 6. How the tradition came about The New Year's speech as a tradition dates back to Christian the 9th's so-called "toast to the fatherland", which was first delivered by the King back in the 1880s. Under Frederik 8, the national newspapers began printing the speech. The toast was given at the New Year's banquet on January 1, and not, as we know it today, on the last day of the year, December 31. 7. The Tupilaks On The Queen's desk in the reception room at Amalienborg are two tupilaks, which The Queen has personally received on various occasions. Tupilak means "ancestor's soul" and is a small Greenlandic figurine made from materials such as wood, bones, teeth and antler branches from reindeer. 8. The flowers on the table Every year, before the New Year's speech, The Queen receives a bouquet of flowers that matches her attire. It is thus a surprise to the Queen what this year's bouquet looks like. 9. The Life Guard's certificate of honor The solemnity surrounding The Queen's New Year's speech can be seen, among other things, in the fact that the Royal Life Guard begins the guard of honor immediately before the New Year's speech, where the guard takes up arms and stands at attention with a banner and two drums while the speech is given. After the Queen's New Year's speech, "King Christian stood at the high mast" is played. The Life Guards present their rifles, salutes are given and the standard is lowered. 10. "God preserve Denmark" Frederik VIII introduced the closing prayer in the New Year's speech in 1909: "God preserve Denmark", which was later reintroduced by Frederik the 9th and still serves as the ending of the Queen's New Year's speeches. She said she would step down on Jan. 14, which is the anniversary of the 1972 death of her father, King Frederik IX, and her succeeding him on the throne. So not just the LW transmitter retiring! I heard bits of the transmission from when the transmitter fired up around 13:20 and listening on a valve set with Kalundborg on the increasingly vacated tuning scale. All rather sad... The signal went up to its normal level, down to a distorted almost nothing mid-afternoon and back up during that time. Winter sky wave propagation? Punxuated by rustling sounds, flipping pages of her script? 1713 UT crowd applause, and national anthem for only about one minute; military commands; 1715 UT YL announcer seems upset, or is that the Q again. Talking about a pianist, composition. 1716 UT piano plays, is that starting with the interval signal? 1719 UT still on, switching to violin. Pauses and more music, wide variety of different instruments, variations on the IS. Long pauses between iterations, so we never know which will be the final note forever. Roger Thauer, Germany, posted an English translation from this about the QNY speech tradition: Certainly not all about the LW transmitter closing, but maybe She men- tioned it. BTW, She's abdicating as of Jan 14. Translation of the speech itself pending. UTwente displays a synchlock on 242999.75 Hz, with the last digit plus/ minus 1, i.e. extremely stable. 1735 UT finally stops, and carrier cut about 1735.7* UT. I think if I had been on higher ground I might have had better results with the other frequencies:I have a favourite listening spot which I may experiment with next year. A likely reason for the above change may be the fact that 9MHz cannot pro- pagate to South America at that hour (but 17, 21, 26 MHz will). Rather than opt for a higher frequency (can their new 81 degree antenna work these high bands?) they added the additional hour for So.Ea.Asia, which is a more reliable signal path. RTL - By Marc Hoscheid - 27 December 2023. In collaboration with various partners and using digital media, the Centre for Contemporary and Digital History announced its newest research project on Radio Luxembourg. Depending on how you look at it, Radio Luxembourg's roots go back to 1924 - making next year RTL's 100th birthday. In light of the anniversary, academics have now launched a research pro- ject to examine the broadcaster's history. Led by Dominique Santana from the Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2_DH), the project will explore the role RTL Luxembourg played in shaping the broadcasting sector of the twentieth century. "I, like many other people of my generation, often have witnessed the con- nections made with Radio Luxembourg when I tell people abroad where I come from. I always asked myself why people abroad listen to RTL at all? That inspired me to do a bit of research until I realised that Radio Luxembourg was a true pioneer in the media landscape of the 20th century." This is partly explained by the fact that RTL has been broadcasting to an audience of millions in different languages for decades. The online platform was created to analyse the history of the station. The project also uses oral history, which is based on contempora- ry witnesses telling their personal stories. The aim is to tell a narra- tive as unfiltered as possible, which is why listeners and former employe- es are now being asked to take part. So far, the whole project is going well. "We haven't had any difficulties so far, so we've already started numerat- ing collections in the digital history lab. We are currently working on numerating the archives of Gust Graas and Barry Alldis from the English broadcaster. We have also already received material from Frank Elstner." On 23 June, for example, a meeting was organised at the Luxembourg Embassy in London with around 20 former DJs from the English station and their fa- mily members. The C2_DH received a few boxes of archive material from them that will be digitised and stored as part of the project. But as already mentioned, ordinary citizens are also encouraged to tell their stories by sending either sound files or gadgets such as pens, posters or items of clothing. The role of the individual is not only that of the supplier of memorabilia, but also one of interpretation. There is also a so-called research diary on the online platform, in which important stages of the project are recorded at regular intervals. On top of the website, the project will be launching a podcast series with the help of students from the "Digital and Public History" master's pro- gramme, which starts next year. Dominique Santana is also expecting the recording of a documentary film, as well as an augmented reality exhibition on Villa Louvigny as a broad- casting centre. The latter is planned to later be shown in Luxembourg em- bassies worldwide. Also known as His Majesty the King's ChristmasMessage to the Commonwealth, this year it was only broadcast on one BBC WS SW frequency, 9410 kHz to East Africa from A'Seela, Oman, just after the news at 15:06 UT. Reception via the University Enschede Twente SDR receiver was only fair with weak co-channel QRM from, I think, CNR-5 (as listed) and from an adjacent chan- nel. The message was followed by "God Save the King," the U.K. National anthem, what we call in Canada the Royal Anthem. The format is different from the televised message, which has the anthem at the beginning and a carol by a choir at the end. Yes, it was a year in review. News read by Moira Alderson followed. At roughly 2308 UT Stephen Sackur then began the show with a story about Gaza and the war. I recorded the full hour for later playback. Much of the content is sourced from the domestic BBC News channel and then recompiled for the radio version.
