Roman Protasevich, who was considered a Belarusian opposition figure but turned out to be a Belarusian intelligence officer, detailed the operation on his program on the STV television channel. In December, Ivan Tertel, Chairman of the Belarusian KGB, announced the dismantling of a network of foreign intelligence agencies that was eavesdropping on civilian and military aviation pilots and monitoring sensitive facilities. "Behind harmless amateur radio activity, a surveillance system was con- cealed that was working against the country. According to the KGB, a covert structure created with external support was identified and neu- tralized. Its ultimate goal went far beyond simple curiosity. It was to gain the ability to influence critically important facilities," said Protasevich, who has hosted the news and analysis program "Without Cover" on STV since December 2025. Details in Russian: Minsk, January 15 - RIA Novosti. A major radio spy network has been dismantled! Protasevich shared exclu- sive details of the Belarusian KGB operation. Thanks for the heads-up, Walt. - Upon seeing your post, I turned on my radio and found them at 96?19 kHz (my radio doesn't do fine tuning in smaller increments) with Portuguese talking and then music at 0130 UT. A good signal and no interference, but considerable noise and choppy fading (SINPO 35232). After walking the dog, I found the station still on at 0228 UT with a contemporary Christian song, then an organ-accompanied song sung by a choir. I'm now hearing more talking by a male host as of 0239 UT; still noisy but audible. While I've logged a half-dozen other stations from Brazil over recent years, this one's a first-time logging for me. (Eric Fetters-Walp, Lake Stevens, WA_USA, wor Jan 21) Subject: Radio 9 De Julho. As reported by WRTH 2026 and also by MWList, there are dozens of 'Radio Rebelde' stations scattered across the island of Cuba on the 1180 kHz frequency, with the aim of inhibiting the signals of Radio Marti - 1180 kHz, USA. The Radio Rebelde station in question, heard on 1180 kHz in Ibiuna, is surely the one located in the city of Marti (Cuba), which, according to data collected, is the only one that transmits at a higher power, in this case, using 200 kW. The others mostly use only 1 to 5 kW. This station / frequency has been heard here before under the same conditions with a loop antenna frequency of 1180 kHz, Radio Marti, USA; by slightly rotating the loop antenna (a few degrees to the left), Radio Marti USA disappears, and a little further on, Radio Rebelde 'rises' on the same frequency. Radio Prague International is preparing numerous projects this year, including anniversary QSL cards. Editor-in-Chief Klara Stejskalova explains: "QSL cards, as confirmation of reception reports, are the classic symbol of international broadcasting. This year's collection of 10 cards is an anniversary edition. Nine of them feature the most important events of the nine decades. The tenth, the 'Golden Card,' will be issued exactly on the 90th anniversary of the sta- tion's launch." The first card features a transmission tower and the symbol for Esperanto. "This was unique: Czechoslovak Radio also broadcast in this artificial language," Stejskalova adds. Other cards commemorate the successes of Olympic champion Emil Zatopek or the Prague Spring with Alexander Dubcek. Further to my previous post, the opening announcement of Radio Iran Azad as heard on the Tambov SDR has been transcribed from Persian to English and includes the following: "This is Radio Iran Azad. Every night from 8 o'clock Iran time, it broad- casts on 864 kHz. You can listen to the programmes of Radio Iran Azad on the car radio as well ... If you hear our voice, please contact this number 2-0-44-79-39-48-44-66. Radio Iran Azad, the voice of freedom for the people of Iran". Jan 24. Subject: Radio Iran Azad - 864 kHz. Using the online SDR in Tambov, Russia, a station was heard yesterday, 20 Jan 2026, on mediumwave 864 kHz identifying itself as "Radio Iran Azad" in Persian. It was noted from around 1630 UT with time pips and a news-based programme until going off at 1715 UT. A check today, 21 January, confirmed it coming on air at 1613 UT with loop of easy-listening Western-type instrumental music, time pips at 1630UT, ID "Inja Radio Iran Azad", opening announcement, anthem, and the start of the programme in Persian consisting of news reports, some in English being spoken over in Persian. I had a quick listen using the online SDR in Grimsby (using the EW antenna option) and although Egypt dominated the frequency, the instrumental music was audible underneath, so maybe a chance for MW DXers to hear this in the UK. Presumably this is coming from Gavar, Armenia site. Jan 21 Tambov SDR: (Tony Rogers, Birmingham-UK, BrDXC-UK iogr news Jan 21 - 24) Re: Radio Iran Azad - 864 kHz. The property had barely been maintained for 30 years and it was visible. We have been working hard on the property for 6 months now. Now it's the roof's turn. The roof of 80 by 120 meters is getting new roofing. The poles as well, in- cluding a sliding system for flags on top of the poles, will be replaced. On the roof there is our coax cable and there is the ATU, and on the slid- ing system there is our antenna. In short, we have to clear the roof for the time being. And with that, we're soon off the air for 6 weeks. Because our antenna has been hanging in the weather and wind for 10 years, this gives us the opportunity to completely renew it again.\n Of course we will continue to be heard via the 1098 kHz in Laren and via our stream at Seabreeze AM on F_Book 27 January 2026, photo at Seabreeze is the usual Dutch LPAM heard here on 1395 kHz channel (when 300 kilowatt Gavar Armenia has closed for the evening that is ! ) so will be interesting to hear what other Dutch LPAMs come through on 1395 kHz when Seabreeze is off. Hi all, Thank you for all your suggestions and especially the link to the pic of the rx that was previously featured. I'd like to use to in Signal magazine (and a few more as well) as Nick Rank has discovered others. re the one above, did you have to secure permission for publication from the picture owner or was it ok just to list the source ? One interesting thing I did spot on the pic was that both Crowborough and OTT are shown on different MF channels. After some more close inspection the dial reveals the exact date by virtue of the following: It's just after the execution of the Copenhagen Plan in March 1950 as for example: Moorside E(dge) is on 434 m 692 kHz Brookmans Park is on 330 m 908 kHz Start Point is on 285 m 1052 kHz Droitwich is on 276 m 1088 kHz Ottringham is on 232 m 1295 kHz Crowborough is on 224 m 1340 kHz The date clincher is that Droitwich is shown carrying the Third Programme 434m 647 kHz service and that was a holding operation until the MWT Ampli- phase test transmitter was in use at Daventry on the on-site Tee antenna (which was to become the reserve antenna) after the Dodford 725-foot mast and the new 150 kW T3 installation was commissioned in 1951 year. The date is then just after the plan came in, so just after March 1950. Thanks again for the reserach. 73 Dave Porter Woofferton-UK G4OYX; BrDXC iogr newsgroup Jan 15) USA re WRMI Last Weekend. FYI from Jeff White RMI - as to this past weekend's WRMI outage: As you probably know, we had a massive power outage last Sunday afternoon evening I think the first major outage in a long, long time. I'm in Malaysia, but talking to the folks in Okeechobee-FL it seems there was a deep cold snap and a bad windstorm with gusts up to 60 miles per hour. The winds knocked down one of our transmission lines, but didn't damage any antennas. However, the outage damaged a primary breaker inside our build- ing. We had four engineers working on getting things back up for several hours. It was very hectic, so I'm not sure exactly what time all of the trans- mitters came back up and what time the audio was restored to them. All of the computers with the audio programming had to be restarted, and there were a few glitches with that process. But fortunately no transmitters or computers in the building were damaged. More about this, nothing specific, SW not alluded, via Mike Terry: "Nine USA Radio Stations Off-Air After Winter Storm Cuts Across The Country. FCC January 26 2026 The monster winter storm that cut across the country over the weekend has left at least nine radio stations off the air. The Federal Communi- cations Commission reports eight FMs and one AM station are out of service. The count, gathered from submissions to the Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS) did not identify the stations or their locations. The storm left a glace of ice across the mid-Atlantic and South, bringing down power lines which likely left many stations without backup generators without any electricity with which to remain on the air ..." (Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, hcdx and wor Jan 26) USA 13845 & 12160 kHz Jan 28 at 1717 UT, WWCR still off the air, no sig- nals. Ron Trotto refers us to 'Ask WWCR' on website for more info about the situation; my notes: It's the second broadcast in January, till further notice due to the weather. Four of us are here presently; two stayed overnight. This is #604, with Brady Murray and Zach. Recorded Saturday24th when there are al- ready several inches of snow, with more snow, sleet, freezing rain expect- ed for 24 hours more. Giant storm across the US. More ice, rain expected. Reggie and Greg are also in. Don't want to drive anywhere. Below freezing for a week or two, not going to thaw. Concern is ice, bringing down trees, powerlines, extended period without electricity. At least getting this broadcast done and on website. Transmitters are water-cooled, so without electricity the cooling water stops, freezes, damaging transmitters [if on the air]. Plan to keep everything in good shape as long as we can, with generator, heaters outside. May run out of supplies. If delay returning to air, it's due to weather or could be due to repairs taking place. Snow is not nearly as bad as ice. Doesn' take a lot of ice to damage phone lines, which are a lot like the struxure of our antennas [rhombix]. Already even today at 10 am had a transmitter go down, making horrible noise. Main blower had somehow moved. Engineer Phil has never seen that happen before, two belts torn up. Phil got it repaired in 45 mi- nutes. Not clear if weather caused, not very cold inside that building. You and Reggie did a fair amount of work today, clearing road. Not expect- ing anyone, but a broadcaster did come in to record. Two big trux were about to collide, then came back. Video footage shows almost nobody driv- ing, just some tractor-trailers, or with plows on front. Focusing on main roads. In 24 hours expecting final burst of snow, then bitter cold. As much as 20+ inches of snow predicted. Putting this out to let folx know, if web- site still up, long duration storm. At 11:38 into show another topic: Chris got a call saying that 7 MHz frequencies were not performing as usual, but 7490 kHz mornings was heard in China close to Mongolia, QSLed, SINPO 43444, incredible. 7490 kHz starts about sunrise. Thanks for sharing your observations on the German service of the Voice of Vietnam. You may be interested to learn that even in Germany some liste- ners asked whether the German service is still on the air. (1) I listen to the station regularly and can report that reception of 11885 kHz was bad or non-existent at 1830UT throughout January 2026, while reception of 9730kHz varied between barely audible and usable but not good or excellent. So, both frequencies are still in use. (2) Concerning 9730 kHz China Radio International is indeed taking over the frequency for their musical, formerly Portuguese programme. Their si- lent carrier comes on the air at varying times before 1900 UT, sometimes even when the German programme of the Voice of Vietnam is still running. (3) With this question answered I have another mystery for you to be solv- ed. Already in December, I noted a carillon breaking into the running Ger- man programme on 9730 kHz at 1835-1836 UT. This carillon is also heard at the same time on 9770 kHz. I suppose it is a Chinese transmitter test be- cause both frequencies are used by CRI after 1900 UT and I have also heard Crash and Bang as a test loop recently. Kind regards, HjB (Dr. Hansjoerg Biener-D, wor Jan 30) Re: Voice of Vietnam missing ? Whilst waiting for the English service of Voice of Vietnam to start on 9730 kHz at 1600 UTC on 29 January 2026, I noticed that when the trans- mitter came on air at 1552 UT it had an unscheduled German programme al- ready in progress at that time, which ran through until 1557 UT when it cut, followed by a pause until the start of English at 1600 UT. Does anyone know if there is a VOVTN online stream that has German bet- ween 1530-1600 UT that could explain why this was put out in error on 9730 kHz for a few minutes? 73's Tony (Tony Rogers-Birmingham-UK, wor Jan 30) Voice of Vietnam Son Tay in German at 2000 UT is coming in here at fair/ good level on 11885 kHz.
