The nostalgic and well- known frequency of Pori Shortwave Station, 6120 kHz, had been silent for nearly 10 years. No one had claimed it, and the opportunity to revive it and share music with the world was too tempting to resist.As public radio broadcasting ce- lebrates its 100th anniversary, what could be more exciting than reviving the legendary 6120 frequency? The journey began swiftly. Just 12 hours after receiving the official li- cense from the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (which handles such matters in Finland), I received my first inquiry about the frequency. Shortly after that, a friend contacted me with a simple question: "Is this you?" Within 48 hours, most of the essential groundwork was in place. I even had some test material to try out. Now, I eagerly awaited the official date mentioned in the license so that I could begin test broadcasts. At preci- sely one minute past midnight on June 1st, 2024, the transmitter was acti- vated, and the first tones resonated through the air! Things are looking very promising. I've received positive feedback and greetings from all over Europe regarding the activation of 6120 kHz. May 1st, 2025 marks a new era - our station is reborn! Last use I remember were many hours of Azeri plus one hour each of Russian and English, continued without change also when this programming had been taken off shortwave. This transmitter is known for providing (at least: almost) listenable re- ception as far away as Moscow, I once heard it quite strong also on a Kiwi SDR in Finland. There is a four mast directional antenna, but now I have some doubts if it is still in operation at all, since old listings from the 90s suggest that this system is for the no longer used 1404 kHz to which 702 kHz used to be the daytime companion. So probably high power non-directional, which would be of obvious interest here. The talk about a frequency deviation could well concern this facility. Der Wind hat eine unserer Strom- leitungen umgerissen, aber keine Antennen beschaedigt. Allerdings wurde durch den Stromausfall ein Hauptsicherungsautomat in unserem Gebaeude beschaedigt. Wir hatten vier Techniker im Einsatz, die mehrere Stunden lang daran arbeiteten, die Systeme wiederherzustellen. Es herrschte grosses Chaos, daher kann ich nicht genau sagen, wann alle Sender wieder funktionierten und wann die Audiouebertragung wiederhergestellt war. Januar 2026 hergestellten Kontakt- sendung 'Ask WWCR #604' hiess,hatten sich in Erwartung der kommenden Dinge gleich vier Mitarbeiter an der Sendeanlage eingefunden. "Diese Sendung [eigentlich Podcast] dient der Information,falls die Website noch erreich- bar ist: Es zieht ein laengerer Sturm auf." Bereits seit geraumer Zeit lagen die Temperatur unter dem Gefrierpunkt, und bereits zum Zeitpunkt der Produk- tion war der Verkehr zum Erliegen gekommen bzw. hochgefaehrlich. Bereits an diesem Samstag war ein erster Sender kurz ausgefallen. Man fuerchtete weniger den schon genuegend zu raeumenden Schnee als den angekuendigten Eisregen. Tatsaechlich konnte der Berichterstatter in den naechsten Tagen keine WWCR-Sendungen beobachten. Die Sender waren zwar ausser Be- trieb, doch die Internetstroeme nicht.
