The news airs at 11:30 UTC in a single half-hour block consisting of four segments in Greek, Russian, Arabic, and French. The length of the segments varies in each language, and in all but Greek, they are broadcast infrequently. This is especially true for the Russian- language news, which has gaps, most often between March and June, when it can be absent for one to three months. This year, it was absent from around March 20th and resumed on June 16th. For over 10 years, the Rus- sian-language news has been read by Tatyana Pavlyuk, who until 2023 intro- duced herself on air as Tatyana Gyurlyay. Russian-language segment identification: "Bayrak International. English in Russian." - "Good afternoon, dear radio listeners. This is Bayrak International, the Voice of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. You are listening to the news in Russian." Here's a short clip of my reception caught here in Hope BC-CAN last night June 10 from TDF Issoudun France at 0400 UT on 11870 kHz. Had the SNR been better than 9 db strength, I'm sure I would have had a better decode, but happy to have logged them nonetheless. 'Le Mouv' has been a dreadful station since it first went on the air. It has never attracted a large audience. The station started in 1997 with an emphasis on indie pop-rock and metal. It was described in Telerama's final (2009) "La Guide De la Radio" as "always rock&roll, with a good dose of humor." But this niche was already well-served by private national station 'Radio Nova'. 'France Inter' has a very good Monday-Thursday hour-long show called "Very Good Trip," which explores many musical styles with a knowledgeable host. Years ago, Inter had a weekend late night two-hour alt-rock program called "Alternatives." Also, 'France Inter' (and France Culture) occasionally broadcast concerts or festivals. In the second half of the 1980s, a political thaw began in the country, leading to the beginning of Gorbachev's perestroika in 1987. It was during this time that the St. Petersburg DX Club emerged. It was founded in June 1986 (the official date is June 22nd) under the name "Leningrad DX Circle" in keeping with the city's then-name. The club was created with the goal of bringing together and connecting DXers in the USSR, as well as estab- lishing contacts with DXers and DX clubs abroad. Three Leningrad DXers, members of the RBSWC, were at the club's origins: Willy Vaarapaev, Mikhail Timofeev, and Alexey Osipov. On January 1, 1992, the St. Petersburg DX Club received its current name. The club emblem, shown on the front cover of this guide, depicts a raven, a symbol of wisdom. It listens to the radio on headphones, perched on the railing of the Griboyedov Canal embankment, one of our city's landmarks. The somewhat frivolous forelock suggests that, after all, what we do, DXing, is just a hobby and shouldn't be taken too seriously. From July 1986 to October 1994, the "Leningrad DX Circle" (later the St. Petersburg DX Club) published the "Exotic DX News" bulletin, the most authoritative DX publication in the USSR at the time. The bulletin's main sections included: radio reception on LW, MW, SW, and VHF; reception of radio stations from Latin America, Oceania, and Africa; a QSL section; service broadcasting; underground and pirate broadcasting; the history of radio; and much more. A total of 55 issues of the bulletin were published between 1986 and 1994. Other publications were also released. The club actively contributed to the publication of the "Radio Broadcast- ing in Russian" reference book from issue 4 (spring-fall 2002) to issue 13 (fall 2013-spring 2014). Beginning with issue 14 (spring-fall 2014), the reference book became the club's official publication. From September 1992 to 1993, the St. Petersburg DX Club's DX program "On the Waves of St. Petersburg Ether" was broadcast on the St. Petersburg independent environ- mental radio station "Radio Open City" (established in 1991; founder and director - Alexander Olegovich Mikhailov) at 828 kHz, and in 1994 at 1053 kHz. This program was hosted by Alexey Osipov and Leonid Lakhmin. On August 26, 2001, the program was resumed, and it was broadcast weekly on Sundays at 684 kHz, also through Radio Open City (authors and hosts - Alexey Osipov and Alexander Berezkin). These broadcasts were widely popular among long-distance radio listeners not only in St. Petersburg but throughout the entire Northwestern region of Russia. Reception reports for "Open City Radio" came from St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, from neighboring Russian regions such as Pskov and Nov- gorod, and even from abroad: from Finland, Latvia, and Lithuania. The final, 210th, episode of the program aired on November 6, 2005. Afterward, for a number of reasons, "Open City Radio" ceased broadcast- ing, and the St. Petersburg DX Club suspended its DX programming. Two more episodes, 211 and 212, were broadcast on the local St. Petersburg short- wave station "Novoe Radio" in November and December 2006. After that, the station's staff went on New Year's (2006/2007) vacation, from which they never returned. During the 2006 European DX Council conference in St. Petersburg, thanks to Mikhail Timofeev, a special hour-long DX program was organized on shortwave, featuring the conference delegates. The program was pre-recorded at the Radio Gardarika studio and aired on October 22, 2006, on the HF frequencies 12010 and 15640 kHz. In 1992, the St. Petersburg DX Club, thanks to the assistance of Dario Monferini, head of the Play DX Club, became an observer member of the European DX Council (EDXC), the first DX club not only from the USSR but also from Eastern Europe. The European DX Council unites DX clubs from European countries. EDXC members include 15 DX clubs from 10 European countries and one club from the USA. Since September 6, 2008, the St. Petersburg DX Club has been a full member of the EDXC. On the night of May 23–24, 2026, Ukraine was subjected to a severe Russian drone and missile attack. In total, the Russian army deployed 90 cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, as well as 600 drones. The capital, Kyiv, experienced one of the heaviest air raids during this assault; the offices of both ARD and the German international broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) Cologne sustained heavy damage and were partially destroyed. Both facilities are centrally located in Kyiv but are situated a few hundred meters apart. No staff members were present at either location. In very similar press statements, both ARD and Deutsche Welle expressed re- lief that there were no casualties and gratitude for the bravery of their staff. The BBC says Newshour will cover the global agenda for both World Service and Radio 4 audiences, while continuing to include major UK news stories. Radio 4 Midnight News will also close from the end of this calendar year. It will be replaced by a short news summary, followed by editions of some of the BBC's more prominent podcasts. Changes are also planned for Today after Amol Rajan leaves the programme in September. The BBC does not plan to replace his role directly, with the programme instead moving to a rota of four permanent presenters. The Saturday two hour edition of Today will become single headed from September. BBC Radio 5 Live will also be affected. Weekend Breakfast is to become a two hour programme, while efficiencies are proposed in the station's overall planning and impact team. An agreement between the Holy See and Italy regarding the construction of an agrivoltaic plant in Santa Maria di Galeria entered into force on May 27, 2026. Agrivoltaic systems combine photovoltaics with agricultural use: vege- tables and grain grow beneath the solar panels mounted on support struc- tures. In the long term, the facility in Santa Maria di Galeria is intend- ed to supply electricity not only to the Vatican Radio transmission site — established there in 1957 — but to the Vatican State as a whole.
