BENIN (tent) 1476 kHz Trans World Africa, via MW Parakou - in Hausa (?),
March 6 at 0420 UT. A significant carrier, prolonged fading, poor audio.
A male voice was heard, probably the end of a Christian message, music,
sign-off at 0430UT (consisting with information from MW-List, 'sign-off at

The previous reception of this station in Sao Bernardo SP Brazil, took
place on August 27, 2025 at 0402 UT, with SINPO 13421 (I 3 due to Brazi-
lian a several stations was operating on 1480 kHz in 2025. For some weeks
now (in 2026), the presence of 'strong' Brazilian stations on 1480 kHz has
not been observed, which facilitated the reception of Trans World Radio,
via Benin relay).

BULGARIA QSL from BNR, Bulgarian National Radio 576 kHz from Vidin site.

Bulgaria's only remaining MW transmitter, which carries the Horizont pro-
gramme. This 200kW transmitter is easy to hear further afield now that the
high-power Spanish transmitters on 576 kHz have closed.

See Vidin Gramada bcast site

<https://yandex.com/maps/-/CPB1yB1T>

and also sidefire 4-mast directional antenna approx. 1988 year erected by
Made in USSR, see visible at

BNR have issued an attractive series of QSLs to mark their 90th anniver-
sary. This card shows Bulgaria's first medium wave transmitter.

(Dave Kenny-UK, via BrDXC-UK "Communication" monthly magazine March 2026,
page #3, BrDXC.UK io-groups March 7)

BULGARIA Once oriantal express from Paris to Istanbul and included stops
in Belgrade and Sofia. Now on present decade by Bus trip from Belgrade to
Sofia; visited radio stations in Bulgaria, heard many radios in Balkan
states, Italy, Hungary, Romania, Greece, Ukraine, Turkey, Iran, Egypt,
Benin, Morocco  a.s.o.  {shortened report though}

BNR launched a new portal. You can find all nine regional BNR stations,
located in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Shumen, Blagoev-
grad, Vidin and Kardzhali. In addition, the national stations, Horizont
and Hristo Botev, and the ten international BNR radio stations, which
broadcast every weekday in ten languages (English, German, Russian,
French, Spanish, Serbian, Greek, Turkish, Albanian and Romanian).

In October 2025, my attempts to replicate the 250- mile stretch between
the Serbian and Bulgarian capital cities were sadly thwarted. It was,
therefore, a bus that took me through eastern Serbia and into Bulgaria.
There were good views of some impressive mountain scenery as I listened
to Radio IN, in the Serbian town of Nis on 96.5 MHz. It aired hip-hop,
electronica and other contemporary Serbian tunes.

Thank you to English language service presenter and journalist, Rossitsa
Petcova, who showed me around the BNR buildings, interviewed me for a fea-
ture, and gave me some great sightseeing tips too. I was also very grate-
ful for the souvenirs of BNR key fob, mug, a pen, and a book and DVD of
paintings by BNR's first director, Sira Sitnik.

The medium wave band was very lively. I tuned in on several evenings and
it was crammed full of exciting signals from south-eastern Europe and the
Middle East. Various high powered Iranian stations popped up regularly,
such as Radio Fars on 666 kHz, IRIB Radio Yazd on 747 kHz with orchestral
music, IRIB Radio Jahanbin on 756 kHz, IRIB Radio Zahedan on 783 kHz, IRIB
Radio Chichest on 936 kHz, IRIB Radio Tabriz on 1026 kHz, IRIB World Ser-
vice on 702 kHz and 1161 kHz (with 300kW), IRIB Radio Kermanshah on 864kHz
and IRIB Radio Zansan on 792 kHz.

Egyptian stations that I heard included NMA (National Media Authority of
Egypt) Al-Quran al-Karum on 864 kHz; and NMA Al-Sharq al-Awsat on 774 kHz
playing songs by the late Egyptian singer, Mohamed Rahim.

It is always pleasant, but was no surprise,to hear Romania on medium wave,
Bulgaria's neighbour to the north. Incidentally, thanks to a Radio
Bulgaria programme, I learnt that there are still only two bridges over the River Danube along the 378-mile stretch of border between the
two countries.

Radio wise, SRR Actualiti on 1152 kHz, 1332 kHz and 1179 kHz played a 2025
remix of You're my Heart, You're my Soul by 1980s' German dance pop duo
Modern Talking; There was talk about soccer on 945 kHz from SRR Actualiti
with mention of Spain's Real Madrid and Italian teams Juventus and Bolog-
na; SRR Targu Mures on 1197 kHz was a decent signal; and Romanian folk
music was heard on 1386 kHz from SRR Radio Cluj.

Other stations that I heard, although did not get positive identifications
from included UR1 Pershiy Kanal on 1278 kHz, a Ukrainian station that had
deserted medium wave for FM but came back after the 2022 Russian invasion.

Saudi Broadcasting Association Riyadh was on 1260 kHz with its powerful
500 kW transmitter.

Danko Radio in Hungary broadcast part of an opera on 1251 kHz, while
Kossuth Radio from Budapest Solt site on 540 kHz is an easy catch right
across Europe.

A couple of what I presumed were Greek pirate stations were also heard.
Giannis Epouranios from Thessaloniki on 1521kHz and songs by Sevas Hanourm
and Litsa Diamadi on 1611 kHz.

From Africa, TWR in Benin was heard on 1566 kHz with church music, while
what I think was SNRT Al Idaa Al-Watania Meknes in Morocco on 612 kHz air-
ed music and a talk about 89-year old Lebanese singer Samira Taufik and
music by Egyptian singer Sherine Wagdy. Maybe that was an Egyptian stn,
I remain unsure. It had pips and news at the top of the hour in Arabic.

BNR Horizont is the sole Bulgarian medium wave station, from Vidin site on
576 kHz, where an exciting soccer match commentary unfurled, resulting in
CSKA Sofia defeating Ludogorets Razgrad by five goals to two.

My south-east Europe travels continued for a further ten days or so, as I
crossed westwards from Bulgaria, back across Serbia and into Croatia, and
its capital city of Zagreb. This was followed by time in the Slovenian
capital of Ljubljana, and finally into Italy to help with the olive har-
vest. The radio side of those adventures will appear in future issues of
'The Spectrum Monitor and Communication'.

INDONESIA 7203 kHz RRI Programa Tiga / Pro. 3, at 1145 UT. Mix of music
and talk (Indonesian). Talk by woman to some nice female vocal music with
string acoustic instrument. Talk by man, and some fading, at 1200 UT. This
is a weekday, so we noted no ham QRM this morning (they have every right
to be here, but ...). After 1300 UT was just a het under QRM from CRI,
etal. We've been listening here the last cupla days since Tucson DXer
Bob Coomler first uncovered this station (and confirmed by Ron Howard in
California).

This is not a new station, but it is now heard here likely bc of higher
power. This is a frequency to check daily. Poor / Fair March 2.

INDONESIA At the beginning of February 2026, the German-language edito-

Bethge, is also reliably available on the WWDXC podcast server

IRAN BBC Monitoring: Iranian State TV hacked again. Iranian state tele-
vision was briefly hacked again last night, with the channels IRINN2,
Network One TV, and Network Two TV affected, as BBC Monitoring observed.

These channels' feeds on Intelsat satellite were interrupted yesterday for
several minutes after 21:00 local time (17:30 GMT), broadcasting a message
by exiled former crown prince Reza Pahlavi. In the message, Pahlavi called
on Iranian military personnel to side with the public against the Islamic
Republic.

IRAN/ISRAEL The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) says it destroyed the head-
quarters of Iran's state broadcaster IRIB in an airstrike in Tehran a
short while ago.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) building had already been
targeted by Israel during the June 2025 war. Israeli Air Force fighter
jets dropped dozens of bombs on the building a short while ago, destroying
it, the military says.

According to the military, the "Iranian terrorist regime's communications
center" was used to "advance military activities under the guise of civi-
lian activity and assets, in addition to the propaganda activities that
emanate from the communications center."

The IDF says that the activities at the center were carried out by Iran's
Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. Ahead of the strike, the IDF issued an
evacuation warning for Iranian civilians in the area.

Re: Emergency Radio Transmission to Iran target audience, by NHK WORLD-
JAPAN Radio via Yamata site.

Signing on suddenly with no interval signal, and no opening announcement.
The program sometimes contains "Overseas Safety Information" for Iran, by
Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Others the same with other regular
NHK World Radio Japan Japanese programs (news, and old Japanese songs
selected from NHK domestic program 1).

Yamata 300 kW 305 deg
Issoudun 250 kW 140 deg
It is presumed about 200 Japanese people are living and staying in Iran
at the end of February 2026.

in the US that this is considered a 'war'). Talk by man in Japanese to
some interesting traditional Japanese vocal music. Fair March 7.

LITHUANIA On February 5, 2026, the German-language editorial team at
Polskie Radio

<https://www.polskieradio.pl/400>

announced that terrestrial broadcasting would be brought forward to 4:30
p.m. Warsaw time/CET. It is now scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. UTC on
the Lithuanian medium wave frequency 1386 kHz. The broadcast cannot be
heard in Central Europe, but reception attempts via Eastern European
WebSDRs also made it questionable until the end of February whether the
station was even in operation.
(Bernd Seiser-D, Febr 27)

"Nothing can be heard during the time slot when the German broadcast is
announced. The technicians in Warsaw should be aware of the propagation
of medium wave in darkness and advocate for a move to the darker hours."

Of course, online broadcasts are an alternative. In the listener letter
quoted above, technical problems with the podcasts on the station's own
website were acknowledged. However, there is also the 30-day archive at

Reception reports are answered promptly with a detailed eQSL, which does
not mention the station location or country. A reception report sent to
the DJ hosting the program was answered in English by "Didier Petit,
Manager Radio Augusta" via

The reception report referred to a program presented in French, but the
80s tracks were all in English and well-known hits. This made it easy to
collect program details, as the presentations were explanations of the
tracks being played.

MALAYSIA On March 4 - from 0201 UT till cut off at 0208* UT, interesting
to find solid, fair reception on 15295kHz RTM Nasional FM program from K-L
Kajang bcasting center, {likely newly delivered and erected Ampegon, Made
in Switzerland transmitter units, ed.}), while I was unable to hear a sig-
nal on 11885 kHz RTM Sabah V FM, both observed via Kiwi SDR remote unit in
Nepal.

Both frequencies would seem to be broadcasting via antennas which are aim-
ed in different directions ? Believe the power output is the same for both
frequencies ?

Both frequencies were very strong via Bogor Indonesia remote Kiwi unit re-
motedly, till both went off at 0208* UT (did not return by the time I tun-
ed - away at 0215UT). Both 9835 & 11665 kHz remain silent from same Malay-
sia site. No activity on 11665 kHz (formerly was 'Wai FM' relay, etc.) nor
on 9835 kHz (formerly was 'Sarawak FM').

MALI 5995even kHz Radio Mali, Bamako txion center #I, big signal at
0755UT on 4 March; nice African mx featuring YL vocalist and balafon. Tone
on organ at 0759 UT and abrupt pulling of plug at -0759* UT which is usual
time for change in fqy to 31 mb. But no Mali signal found on 9635 kHz thru
0804 UT. ... but finally found on the air 0811 UT retune with enormous
signal and BB King in the middle of a long bluesy guitar riff.Interesting-
ly, also tossing off strong but distorted spurious signals +/- 45 kHz, on
9680 and 9590 kHz strings.

MEXICO 6185- kHz UT Mon March 9 at 0430 UT, ID as "Cultura Mexico,

show, instead of 'La Hora Nacional' supposedly carried by all XE stations,
especially government ones, Sundays at 10 pm (and which I did confirm at
0454 UT on XERF 1570 kHz). Two YLs intro show, about "la mejor de las
telecomunicaciones', with or about Solano, radio in Costa Rica, Paraguay
with Daniel Garcia Gomez; red social, etc.

MONACO/FRANCE You may have heard about 'Channel 292' offering time from
Monaco Media Diffusion (MMD) on medium wave at 1467 kHz with a power of
1000 kW 1 megawatt. The price is €350 per hour, so I am saving up some
money to give this a go for an all-Europe MW special broadcast of Pop Shop
Radio in April.

{anyway - MW 1.5 frequency greyline proper signal reception to all-Europe
in April will be somewhat start after 18.30 UTC/GMT, ed.}.

Here is where I need some assistance.
I understand that Trans World Radio uses this transmitter from 2115 to
2300 UT. Are you able to receive this at your location? A few people have
told me that Iran may give this frequency some grief.

I am thinking about using it at 2300 UT sometime in April. I realise that
this would be 0000 GMT in the UK and 0100 UTC in Europe. There is only a
7 hour window for booking time, 2300 to 0600 UT, so this seems like the
most ideal time. Because I recognise that people may have work the next
day, I would do UT Friday or Saturday (local Saturday / Sunday).

To get the best coverage, I'm considering a beam that would be primarily
north east from Monaco / France, toward the Baltics.
Any advice would be appreciated. Tony Pavick, Pop Shop Radio.
(Tony Pavick-BC-CAN, BrDXC-UK iogr Febr 25)

{my advice would be 325 degrees main azimuth to Western Europe during
nighttime, wb. ed.}

Re: 'Channel 292' offering time from Monaco Media Diffusion on medium
wave at 1467 kHz. mail to <info -at- channel292.de>

Hello Tony,
I live very close to Roumoules and even closer to Monaco, so of course
I can hear TWR very well on 1467 kHz.

Currently, the broadcasts are directed towards North Africa. But the four
antennas are rotating; until 2023 year, there were {likely 25 degrees azi-
muth requested to ITU zone 28, ed.} broadcasts in Polish, therefore to-
wards Poland.

Personally, I received 1467 kHz clearly, even as far away as Israel
(last December) and also Chisinau in Moldova.

I've already visited the Roumoules transmitting center, which is quite im-
pressive with its LW and MW antennas.

I hope you'll be able to broadcast from Roumoules; it's in France, but
it's a Monegasque frequency!
Regards, Christian Ghibaudo.

Re: Test from Roumoules - Radio Six International.

The Radio Six International programme scheduled for 7th March at 2300 UT
on 1467 kHz is Tony Currie's "Midnight Rendezvous" "with music from and
to the continent".

Radio Six's full schedule for March is here:

<https://syndication.radiosix.com/Radio_News_702MW.pdf>

(cover of this schedule magazine does mention Radio Six launching weekly
transmissions on 1467 from Roumoules, but it is only listed inside on one
Saturday in the March schedule, tomorrow's test, on the 7th).

Here in southern England, the sky wave signal from Radio Paradijs, local
Dutch LPAM for Utrecht is usually in the clear and fair strength on 1467
kHz after TWR has closed. Plus a het from Radio Qom, Iran, off channel on
around 1467.4 kHz. But I guess they will be blocked tomorrow 2300-0000 UT.
(Alan Pennington-UK, BrDXC-UK groups.io March 6)

After many years on shortwave,'Radio Six International' will be conducting
a test transmission on Saturday 7th March on 1467 kHz medium wave.

This will run from 23:00 - 00:00 GMT, using the transmitter at Roumoules,
France with a power of 1000 kW and a beam of 325 degrees.

If this is successful we will provide a weekly programme at this time and
help to prove that medium Wave is still alive ! Reception reports for this
test transmission are crucial - please send to:
<letters -at- radiosix.com>
Reports will be acknowledged with an eQSL.

SPAIN 12030 kHz Radio Exterior de Espana, presume via Noblejas flame-
thrower from unsked 0810 UT, on March 4; huge signal. Playing slick record-
ed show with smooth Spanish deejay to 0843 UT when taped show ran out and
just transmitted open carrier with S9 signal until 0855 UT when audio
started up again. Show was a survey of popular Spanish love songs from
1960s like "No Puedo Vivir" and "I Am in Love with Love". Plenty of IDs at
0855 UT umption. This was so strong was at first guessing a Greenville
NC state relay, but why?

VATICAN STATE Radio Vatican received a refreshed jingle for its 95th
birthday on February 12, 2026. The original theme of “Christus Vincit,”
composed by Czechoslovakian composer Jan Kunc and recorded by Alberico
Vitalini, was modernized by Marcello Filotei from the RV music editorial
team and adapted to the time of day.

"It was a balancing act between tradition and innovation," said Marcello
Filotei. "It was like balancing on a tightrope between two skyscrapers
and trying not to fall into the void. Modernization does not mean giving
up the past, but looking at it with new eyes."

His project included four identifying jingles, all based on the theme
"Christus Vincit" and intended for different times of the radio day:
morning, mid-morning, afternoon, and night. In addition, there are two
other short idents (shorts) that pick up on the beginning and end of the
theme.

The head of the RV music editorial department, Pierluigi Morelli, has also
created a special ident for noon and midnight, "which is reminiscent of
the orchestration of the Baroque period and takes up a historical and mu-
sical dimension that fits harmoniously into the tradition of the papal
radio".

All idents are broadcast simultaneously on the Italian-language channel
and the 30 web radio stations of Vatican Radio, creating a "global listen-
ing experience."

VIETNAM Voice of Vietnam Son Tay site intermodulation on odd 11913.43 kHz

I've seen this for a few days on many KIWI sdrs. Seems in parallel with
VoV on 11885 kHz. With strongest signal on Uni Enschede Twente SDR but it
is audible all over Europe but barely audible in all-Asia/Pacific region.
Presumed to be a spur from Son Tay, Hanoi transmitter. As I write this
I see it also on odd frq 11856.52 kHz.

Re: Voice of Vietnam Son Tay intermodulation on 11913.43 kHz.
That's not new spurious matter of o n e of the 5 x SW transmitters in
Son Tay bcasting center.

Happened few times in past decade also.

VIETNAM 11885 kHz Some bad accompanied audio strings happened again on
the VoVTN outlet from Son Tay, French service at 19.00-19.56 UT. Happened
some ? 5 years ago in 31 mb of Son Tay TX outlet. Today April 2025 heard
VTN Son Tay on exact 9730 kHz underneath CRI Portuguese on CO-CHANNEL bad
fqy coordination.

11885 kHz Son Tay suffered by bad sideband strings heard and seen 7, and
9 and 17.5 kHz apart away distance on both sidebands too. 11903 kHz
approx. too. on even 11895 kHz CRI Kashi in Cantonese language also cover-
ed.

Side broadcasts from 9730 kHz Hanoi Son Tay.

Dear editors of the German broadcasts,
I wanted to let you know that your station on the frequency 9730 kHz also
has side emissions on 9704 and 9754 kHz that can be heard in Europe.
The main frequency is currently (1850 UTC) 35433.
Best regards, Dr. Hansjoerg Biener-D, May 12, 2021.

Re: Side emissions from 9730 kHz Hanoi Son Tay bcast center.
Hj. These are the old Made in USSR transmitters, around 30 years old, in
the Son Tay transmission center west of Hanoi.

One of the six transmitters has a control fault and produces audio track
strings, always 8 kHz apart, like a garden fence - visible on the software
screen, e.g. in the Perseus RX screen.

This has been happening on and off for at least a decade, recently more
often in the 41 mb around 7280 kHz, but mostly in the 31 meter band, when
the 5th / 6th - faulty - transmitter is in use.

Tonight, 9730 kHz is actually covered by a 500kW system, by CRI Portuguese
music program from the center of Kashi-Kashgar, powerhouse S=9+50dB or
-21dbm, a really crazy strong signal from Kashgar Tibet, on the Kyrgyz
Republic border.

The German—now English—program from Hanoi Son Tay is best heard today on
9706 and 9754 kHz, from 16:00 to 22:00 UT; otherwise the garden fence on
both sides, shows exact transmitter strings at the
9738, 9746, 9754, and 9762 kHz frequencies upperside, and
9690, 9698, 9706, 9714, and 9722 kHz frequencies lowerside.

Mit freundlichen Gruessen, Dr. Hansjoerg Biener-D, May 12, 2021.

besten auf 9706 und 9754 kHz zu hoeren, von 16.00-22.00 UT;
